Algeria’s national carrier, Air Algérie, has taken delivery of its sixth Airbus A330-900neo, registered as 7T-VJG. The latest addition marks another step in the airline’s ongoing fleet modernization and expansion strategy.

According to NewsAero, the aircraft carries manufacturer serial number 2137 and is powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent 7000-72 engines. Its cabin accommodates 308 passengers, comprising 18 business-class seats, 24 premium-economy seats, and 266 economy-class seats.

The aircraft conducted its first test flight on September 16, 2026, under the temporary registration F-WWYF, before arriving in Algiers on October 16–17. Its entry into commercial service was scheduled for October 20, operating flight AH2700 from Algiers to Montréal.

Air Algérie Continues Its Fleet Renewal Programme

The delivery forms part of Air Algérie’s broader strategy to modernize its long-haul fleet and strengthen its competitiveness on international routes. In January 2026, the airline increased its firm order for the A330-900neo to nine aircraft, leaving three additional units to be delivered following this sixth delivery.

The programme follows an agreement reached in June 2023, under which two Airbus A350-1000 orders were converted into A330-900neo orders to better align the airline’s fleet with its capacity requirements and operating-cost objectives.

The new aircraft are expected to progressively replace older widebody jets while supporting the expansion of Air Algérie’s international network, particularly across Europe, the Middle East, and North America.

Beyond fleet renewal, the airline is also seeking to increase passenger traffic and strengthen its presence in the African aviation market. Air Algérie is targeting nearly 10 million passengers in 2026, compared with 8.8 million in 2025, and aims to serve at least 20 African destinations by 2028.
