Egypt’s AlMasria Universal Airlines to Add Two Airbus A321s to Its Fleet

Egyptian carrier AlMasria Universal Airlines is preparing to expand its fleet with two additional Airbus A321 aircraft, strengthening its capacity to serve the Russian market as demand for travel to Egypt continues to grow.
AlMasria Universal Airlines has ordered two additional Airbus A321 aircraft as part of its plans to expand operations between Egypt and Russia. The announcement was made by the airline’s chief executive, Shereen Farid, who indicated that the aircraft are expected to join the fleet in the near future.
According to Farid, the airline currently operates eight Airbus A321s, each configured to accommodate approximately 220 passengers. The aircraft are owned by the company rather than operated under leasing arrangements, reflecting its approach to fleet management.
Russia Remains a Key Market
The additional aircraft are intended primarily to support AlMasria’s services to Russian destinations. The carrier operates flights from Egyptian resort cities to multiple destinations across Russia and is seeking to broaden its network to meet demand.
The expansion comes amid continued growth in Russian visitor numbers to Egypt, reinforcing the importance of air connectivity between the two countries. Tourism remains a major driver of demand, particularly for flights linking Russian cities with Egypt’s Red Sea resorts.
Adding two aircraft would give AlMasria greater operational capacity to support existing services while creating opportunities to expand its route network.
A Change in Fleet Acquisition Plans
The airline had initially considered acquiring Airbus A330 aircraft. However, delivery delays led the company to abandon that option and opt for two additional A321s instead.
The decision points to the continued importance of the A321 within AlMasria’s operating model. The single-aisle aircraft offers the capacity and range needed for many of the carrier’s regional and medium-haul services, including routes connecting Egypt with Russian destinations.
Strengthening Egypt–Russia Air Connectivity
The planned fleet expansion comes at a time when Egypt continues to attract substantial numbers of Russian tourists. According to figures cited by Egyptian tourism authorities, more than two million Russian visitors travelled to Egypt in 2025.
With two additional A321s expected to join its fleet, AlMasria aims to reinforce its position in this market and support the development of its international operations.
The aircraft deliveries will be an important next step in the airline’s expansion plans, although their precise delivery dates and the details of any new routes have yet to be confirmed.
