Marrakech Airshow 2026: Morocco Accelerates Value Addition, Cementing Its Aerospace Leadership in Africa

On the eve of the Marrakech Airshow 2026, Morocco’s aerospace ecosystem is reporting robust growth in industrial activity and exports. Driven by deeper local integration and a strategic shift toward advanced technologies, the Moroccan platform is positioning itself as the primary hub connecting global OEMs with the African market.

A Flagship Showcase for a Rapidly Expanding Ecosystem

Held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Marrakech Airshow 2026 brings together the global value chain across aerospace, defense, and space at the Marrakech Royal Air Force Base from October 7 to 10.
The 2026 edition highlights a mature industrial base that now features 150 established companies generating approximately 26,000 skilled jobs. With a local integration rate exceeding 40%, Morocco confirms its evolution from a high-value subcontracting site into a fully integrated industrial hub capable of mastering complex capabilities, including engineering, assembly, electrical wiring, composites, engine maintenance, and MRO.

Export Momentum Driven by Assembly and Embedded Systems

Economic data underscores the solid fundamentals of the Moroccan model. In 2025, aerospace exports reached MAD 29.087 billion, marking a 10% year-on-year increase compared to 2024 (MAD 26.446 billion).
This performance is anchored by two core pillars:
  • Assembly Operations: Growing by 11% to reach MAD 19.129 billion, reflecting strong confidence from global aircraft manufacturers in Morocco’s local structural and systems assembly capabilities.
  • Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems (EWIS): Exports of aeronautical wiring harnesses rose by 8.3% to MAD 9.858 billion.

Strategic Implications and Opportunities for the African Market

  1. Industrial Sovereignty and Technological Autonomy: By expanding capabilities into high-tech defense systems, satellite technology, and artificial intelligence, Morocco strengthens its national sovereignty while providing a secure regional supply base.
  2. Attractiveness for Investors and Lessors: Higher local integration lowers supply chain costs and boosts overall competitiveness, making the region increasingly attractive to foreign direct investment and aircraft financing structures.
  3. South-South Synergies: For African nations, Morocco’s strategic positioning offers a nearby partner for specialized training, MRO services, and industrial sourcing, fostering the growth of intra-African value chains.

Market Outlook and Future Perspectives

As the global aviation industry grapples with supply chain bottlenecks and the urgency to decarbonize, the Moroccan aerospace ecosystem is well-positioned to capture additional market share. The next critical milestone will focus on driving local integration beyond 50%, advancing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) initiatives, and expanding high-value MRO capability to serve both civil and military fleets across the African continent.
